Dwight-Englewood Class of 2016 | Elliot Jennis

Elliot Jennis works for the Johns Hopkins Applied Physics lab (the organization that built and operated the Double Asteroid Redirection Test (DART) for NASA), and he also works for NASA. He had the opportunity to sit in the control room on September 26, 2022 a few hours before the spacecraft’s kinetic impact with its target asteroid, Dimorphos, successfully altered the asteroid’s orbit. This marks humanity’s first time purposely changing the motion of a celestial object and the first full-scale demonstration of asteroid deflection technology. For the actual impact itself Elliot was watching live with the rest of the Applied Physics Lab at the main reception housed on the space exploration campus.

GET INVOLVED! CLASS CAPTAINS AND REPS NEEDED!

Become a part of the class leadership team that works in partnership with the Alumni Relations Committee and Alumni Relations team throughout the year to promote class engagement and financial support for the School. Class Captains and Representatives (Reps) work with each other to plan milestone Reunion celebrations, share news and updates about classmates and the School, and inspire gifts to the Annual Fund.

We are looking for multiple members of each class to become a Class Captain or Rep and share the responsibilities!
