Benjamin Rifkin writes, “While I was in college in the early ‘80s, I taught in a program for middle-school students. I consulted with my methods class professor, the late Edith MacMullen, for suggestions about how to work with a student in my group who couldn’t sit still. She asked me why he had to sit still, why he couldn’t pace during class if that would help him focus and learn. That question set me off on a transformative journey – spanning decades – to question my assumptions about the learning-teaching dynamic and to make sure that my learners were always at the center of my work. I am grateful to ACTFL for the extraordinary honor of the 2020 Wilga Rivers Award for Leadership in #ForeignLanguage Education. I pledge my continuing efforts to focus on our learners to enhance the diversity and inclusion of students and teachers in all world languages classrooms.” Congratulations Benjamin!

GET INVOLVED! CLASS CAPTAINS AND REPS NEEDED!
Become a part of the class leadership team that works in partnership with the Alumni Relations Committee and Alumni Relations team throughout the year to promote class engagement and financial support for the School. Class Captains and Representatives (Reps) work with each other to plan milestone Reunion celebrations, share news and updates about classmates and the School, and inspire gifts to the Annual Fund.
We are looking for multiple members of each class to become a Class Captain or Rep and share the responsibilities!
