We learned of the passing of Ann Coulter “Colti” Wiss from her son Frederick “Freddie” Wiss and shared her obituary:
“Ann Coulter Wiss, class of 1939, passed away December 29, 2021, 9 days shy of 100. She grew up in Burlington, NC and Greensboro, NC. Attending Dwight for two years, she was one of two who were not from New Jersey or New York of the twenty girls in her class. Her fond memories of Dwight included the proximity to New York City, attending the 1939 New York World’s Fair, and skating at the Coffins house in the winter. She was voted “The Most Artistic” by her class. She went on to Smith College, but left after two years to return to NYC, attending Arts Students League and the New Art School. In 1943, she worked for Grumman Aircraft in the war effort and at the end of the year married Norman F Wiss Jr., who was then sent overseas for two years. After the war, they settled in Livingston, NJ and then Short Hills, NJ. Through the years she pursued many activities and was a leader of a variety of organizations. In the 70s and 80s, she volunteered as a seamstress at the Costume Institute at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. In the 70s, she began forty years of volunteering at the gardens at Rutgers University and later became a certified Master Gardener. She is survived by her three children, Cathy (Chris), Don and Freddie (Cathleen) and three grandchildren, Sarah, Thomas and Margaret.”
