Susan Thistle sent in this update, “I recently finished a book, The Memory of All That, for my mother, Mary MacCracken, who died before completing it, which came out this past July, 2022. Called “ moving and frank remembrance of love and loss” by Kirkus Reviews it’s a poignant memoir of my mother’s long happy marriage to Cal MacCracken and how, when Alzheimer’s struck, they sustained their loving relationship despite the challenges raised by the disease.
While some people had pandemic puppies, this was my pandemic project. I recently retired from teaching at Northwestern University, where I earlier published my own book, From Marriage to the Market (University of California Press, 2006), which, a non-academic friend told me, contained far more information than anyone would ever want to know. I kept my mother’s book short and sweet. I now split my time between a remote island in the San Juans north of Seattle, WA and Tucson, AZ. ”

I’m excited to announce that the last book by my step-mother, Mary MacCracken, The Memory of All That: A Love Story about Alzheimer’s, came out recently. I hope it will help others dealing with the disease. It’s also great for anyone who might enjoy reading about a wonderful relationship.
