Dwight ’67

Mary Roe-Geringer | Dwight 1967 | obituary

We are deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Mary Kathryn Roe-Geringer on January 14, 2023. Her obituary was published by the Zellman Funeral Home in Havre de Grace, MD.

“On January 14, 2023, Mary Kathryn Roe Geringer passed to her eternal rest. Devoted mother of Elizabeth Rogachevsky; loving daughter of the late Grace and William J. Roe MD; predeceased by her dear siblings William J. Roe Jr. MD, Peter J. Roe, and Grace M. Roe; loving sister of her brothers Kevin G. Roe and Maurice J. Roe; affectionately known as “Aunt Kathy” to her nieces and nephews Kevin, Caitlyn, Megan, Brian, Danny, Christie, Sean and Julie.

A memorial service was held on Saturday, January 21 at the Zellman Funeral Home located at 123 South Washington St., Havre de Grace, MD.

Mary will be remembered for her benevolence and willingness to be there for others. She graduated high school from the prestigious Dwight-Englewood School, later becoming a Registered Nurse having received her formal training from the Bergen Pines School of Practical Nursing and her RN from the Englewood Hospital School of Nursing. She relocated to the Baltimore area where she raised her daughter Elizabeth. Mary had spent her entire life serving others and specialized in elderly care in her later years. Despite her emigration south down RT 95, Mary still retained her NJ roots opening a seasonal ice cream store on the Jersey Shore, the Ice Palace, with her brother Kevin in the late 90s. Mary spent summers at her Ortley Beach ice cream shop and always enjoyed a swim in the Atlantic Ocean and a tan on the beach. With a root beer float in one hand and an ever-present camera in the other, she became an expert at candid shots of her customers. Mary was the most insatiable animal lover you’d find, never having fewer than a half dozen pets to look after, dogs being her favorite. Her love for animals was complemented by her appreciation of nature, keeping a garden that was the prize of her neighborhood. Stories of her selflessness and infectious smile abound. She was loved by so many and will never be forgotten.”
