New London – Melissa Anne Shafner, 53, passed away on June 29, 2021. Melissa was born in Belleville, N.J., on March 20, 1968, the daughter of Jay Clott, Boca Raton, Fla., and the late Nancy (Falk) Clott.

Melissa leaves a loving son Noah Zane; a brother Jonathan Clott (Rachel); stepmother Emily Danson; ex-husband Daniel Shafner; and many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Melissa graduated from Connecticut College, Phi Beta Kapa, Summa Cum Laude. She also graduated with a top scholastic award from Hofstra University School of Law and then was admitted to the New Jersey State Bar. She received a master’s degree in special education from the University of New Haven. She was a ten-year board member of the Solomon Schechter Academy in New London. Melissa was the Director of Student Accessibility Services at Connecticut College.

Melissa was a Warrior Princess enduring the complexities of Pancreatic Cancer. She had a wonderful sense of humor and quick wit. She was always a loyal friend to family and friends.

GET INVOLVED! CLASS CAPTAINS AND REPS NEEDED!

Become a part of the class leadership team that works in partnership with the Alumni Relations Committee and Alumni Relations team throughout the year to promote class engagement and financial support for the School. Class Captains and Representatives (Reps) work with each other to plan milestone Reunion celebrations, share news and updates about classmates and the School, and inspire gifts to the Annual Fund.

We are looking for multiple members of each class to become a Class Captain or Rep and share the responsibilities!
